MAVEN Project co-hosts professional development conference with School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County
For time-pressured health care providers, opportunities to network and learn about advancements in medicine are rare but invaluable. MAVEN Project eagerly addresses this need, most recently by co-hosting a professional development conference for family medicine providers with School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County.
For over three decades, School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County has provided high-quality health care to low-income communities around San Jose. What started as a small clinic on a local campus has grown to six locations that reach thousands of patients every year.
With such deep presence in the county, clinic providers are uniquely attuned to their patients’ medical needs. However, growing gaps in health equity mean high patient volumes and increasingly complex diagnoses, adding to the challenges of treating un- and underinsured individuals.
To support School Health Clinics and its patients, the October 2023 conference featured educational sessions led by MAVEN Project’s extraordinary physician volunteers, who carefully curated topics for providers working in family medicine. These included the following:
- Patient-centered Communication Skills Workshop: The Four Habits Model, Dr. Scott Abramson
- PCOS in Adolescents and Young Women—Diagnosis and Management, Dr. Debra Cohen and Dr. Katherine Gregory
- Dermatology Basics: Common Dermatoses, Dr. Ann Ortmeyer
- How to Assess Cardiac Concerns in Children and Adolescents in Primary Care Clinics, Dr. Claude Rogé
Attending these sessions allowed attendees to earn continuing education credits free of charge, as well as network and learn from other local health professionals.
“Opportunities to gather like this are so valuable,” noted Nurse Practitioner Kyra Delapedraja. “They are a great way to gain valuable knowledge and connect over shared experiences. The event brought health care providers together from all parts of the community and was a great success! There was a lot of enthusiasm and participation among the attendees.”
“Our dedicated volunteers were thrilled to take the helm of these educational sessions and provide continuing medical education credits,” added Dr. Jill Einstein, MAVEN Project’s senior director of physician engagement. “For three years, it’s been an honor to support School Health Clinics and witness the extraordinary contributions they make to our community.”
